The pied currawong is a large black bird, 41-51cm (16-20") with white markings on the wing,
rump, undertail and tip of tail. All currawongs have a conspicuous yellow eyes.
Although pied currawongs are commonly heard singing in treetops in open forests, such as
the eucalypt forest of northeastern Australia, they will also visit suburbs and park
lands and forage on the ground in small groups.
Currawongs have a specialised wild diet of bull ants, stink bugs, invertebrates, eggs, small
animals and native berries, our introduced (not native) garden plants have provided a range
of winter fruiting plants to eat during the colder months.
